NN Group Art Award

info

NN Group has recently launched a new partnership with Art Rotterdam. From 9 - 12 February 2017, the 18th edition of this art fair will be open to the public in the Van Nelle factory in Rotterdam. This fair highlights the latest developments within the contemporary visual arts and has an international focus -  almost half of the 125 gallery owners come from abroad. As a visitor, you will experience art in a very diverse and accessible way through the different exhibition models which span intimate gallery presentations to monumental installations and video art.

In addition, and for the first time, the NN Group Art Award will be presented during Art Rotterdam. A jury will grant this award to an exceptional talent who received his or her education in the Netherlands and whose work can be seen at the fair in 2017. The prize is not only aimed at young talent;  artists who are already a little further along in their career and completed their education at an art school or postgraduate art school in the Netherlands are also eligible for the prize.

This new award is an initiative that brings the exceptional quality of art schools in the Netherlands into the limelight. From all over the world, young artists flock to Dutch academies to tap into their full potential and become acquainted with other artists and cultures. The Rijksakademie and De Ateliers in Amsterdam, De Van Eyck Academie in Maastricht and the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam are some of the best academies in the world and have had a lasting influence on the international development of the visual arts. Many artists at Art Rotterdam received their education at an art school or postgraduate art school in the Netherlands.

The award consists of a cash prize (EUR 10,000) and one piece of art from one of the four nominees will be purchased for NN Group's corporate collection.

The jury consists of: Saskia van Kampen-Prein, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen;  Antoine de Werd, collector; Hilda Bouma, Journalist and Coordinator Culture of Het Financiele Dagblad; Els Drummen, Curator NN Group Art Collection.

The four nominees will be announced on the web page of  Art Rotterdam and NN Group in the second half of January 2017. The winner will be announced during the press conference at the Art Rotterdam on February 8. VBCN members are very welcome.
