The Bouwfonds art collection is characterised by a broad outlook and an emphasis on contemporary art, by both nationally and internationally renowned artists. For a long time, the focus was primarily on exhibiting the latest art works; for this reason, most of the art acquired was by young artists. After thirty years this has resulted in a collection that presents a portrait of an era, with representatives from pop-art, conceptual art, silent art, new figuration, new sculpture, neo-expressionism and other movements. At present, the policy is to strengthen and extend the various threads that characterise the art collection. Over the years, Bouwfonds has given commissions to a variety of artists, such as André Volten, Carel Visser, Marlene Dumas and to Marijke van Warmerdam.
